Teenergizer welcomes the appointment of Graeme Reid as the UN Independent Expert on protection against violence and discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity

As the leading NGO in Ukraine working on issues of HIV, health and human rights of young people, Teenergizer is thrilled that Graeme Reid has been appointed to leader the UN’s efforts to address human rights violations concerning LGBTIQ and gender-diverse individuals. “Graeme Reid’s appointment as the UN Independent Expert on SOGI will bring much needed leadership and attention to the human rights of LGBTIQ and gender-diverse individuals. Teenergizer is dedicated to protect the human rights for all LGBTIQ persons, especially for young people affected by the Russian invasion and occupation of Ukraine,” said Yana Panfilova, Founder and Head of the Board of Teenergizer. “We hope Graeme Reid will focus his important mandate on the urgent human rights challenges facing LGBTIQ persons in Eastern Europe.”

Since 2015, Teenergizer has been fighting HIV and health-related discrimination among youth. In honor of National Coming Out Day 2023, Teenergizer’s friend Yura Dvizhon launched his new film “Marriage in(equality) in Ukraine.”. The Government of Ukraine is working with civil society to advance legislation to improve the lives of everyone in the country, regardless of sexual orientation and gender identity.

Teenergizer is a movement that unites teenagers from the region of Eastern Europe and Central Asia. Together we create a world in which every teenager can realize their potential. A world free of discrimination in all its manifestations, including related to HIV. A world in which the rights of all adolescents and young people, especially girls, do not need to be protected because they are entirely respected.
